Debbarma, a scion of Tripura's former ruling family, has been requesting a "constitutional solution" to his party's demand for a separate state by the name of 'Tiprasa' for a long time. On the one hand, the BJP has made it clear that it is not ready to accept the division of the smaller state of Tripura, while its leaders have expressed a desire to give more legislative, financial and executive powers to the Tripura Tribal Autonomous Council. The Tripura Tribal Autonomous Council is currently in existence and looks after the affairs in the areas dominated by tribal communities in the state.
