This decision had to be taken due to a technical fault in the flight. Sonia and Rahul attended a meeting of opposition parties in Bengaluru and were on their way back to Delhi when the flight was derailed. Both the leaders stayed in Bhopal for about one and a half hours. During this, some Congress leaders of Bhopal also reached the airport to meet him. According to the information received from the airport officials, both the leaders were going to Delhi by non-scheduled flight. The flight had to land in Bhopal at around 8 pm due to a technical glitch. As soon as this information was received, some Congress leaders reached the airport. These included MLA Kunal Chaudhary, Arif Masood, PC Sharma, former Union Minister Suresh Pachauri, Shobha Ojha. These leaders met Rahul and Sonia.
