Hearing will be held in the Gujarat High Court today on the petition of former Congress President Rahul Gandhi in the defamation case. Earlier, the High Court had adjourned the hearing till May 2 after hearing the arguments of both the sides. In fact, Surat’s sessions court had sentenced Rahul Gandhi to two years in the Modi surname case. Which the former Congress President has challenged in the High Court. After the sentencing, Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership has also gone away. If Gandhi’s conviction is stayed by the court, it would pave the way for his reinstatement as a Lok Sabha MP. Gandhi is currently out on bail in this case.
Rahul Gandhi’s lawyer Abhishek Singhvi had said in the High Court – the matter is not serious
Senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi had told the Gujarat High Court that the alleged crime for which Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been convicted and sentenced to two years imprisonment is neither serious nor does it involve moral turpitude. Singhvi requested to stay the conviction of former Congress President in the defamation case of the year 2023 .
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi was shocked by the Surat Sessions Court
Rahul Gandhi filed a revision petition in the Surat Sessions Court challenging the two-year sentence. But he did not get relief from there, after which he has challenged the decision of the Sessions Court in the High Court.
