Scorching heat has started in the country since the month of February. The sound of scorching heat is already being heard in many states of North India. Regarding the increasing heat in the country, PM Modi held a high-level meeting today i.e. on Monday to review the preparations related to it. The meeting stressed the need for a coordinated effort to combat forest fires along with auditing fire safety measures in hospitals. According to the statement, the Prime Minister has been directed to prepare different awareness materials for various stakeholders including citizens and to include some multimedia lecture sessions in schools to sensitize children on how to deal with extreme heat conditions. .
Emphasis on dissemination of weather information: The Prime Minister said that protocols and do’s and don’ts for hot weather should be made available in accessible formats. should be prepared and various other methods of publicity like jingles, films, pamphlets etc. should also be issued. The Prime Minister asked the IMD to issue daily weather forecasts in a manner that could be easily interpreted and disseminated. He also stressed on involving news channels, FM radio etc. for dissemination of weather forecast, so that citizens are facilitated to take necessary precautions.
The Prime Minister stressed the need for a detailed audit of fire prevention measures of all hospitals and said that mock fire drills should be conducted in all hospitals by the fire department, the PMO said. He stressed the need for a coordinated effort to combat forest fires and called for systemic changes to be made in the efforts to prevent and combat them.
The Prime Minister also directed to keep an eye on the availability of fodder and water in the reservoirs. The PMO said that the Food Corporation of India has been asked to prepare to ensure storage of food grains in adverse weather conditions.
