Former Chief Minister Palaniswami thanked his supporters for this promotion. Many leaders of the main opposition party said that after becoming the general secretary, Palaniswami would lead the party towards better days. It may be noted that amid ongoing leadership tussle between Panneerselvam and Palaniswami, Panneerselvam and Palaniswami were censured for alleged anti-party activities at the AIADMK General Council meeting on 11 July 2022.
