Sources said that Meghalaya stoles were originally woven for the Khasi and Jaintia royalty, who considered them a symbol of their power. He said that these stoles were worn during formal occasions and festivals and their distinctive designs and vibrant colors reflected the wealth and prestige of the royal family.

Officials said that Khasi and Jaintia kings often presented these stoles to other rulers as a token of goodwill and respect. He added that these stoles are made using locally procured wool and natural dyes.
