India said that a country that hosted al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and attacked its neighboring country’s parliament does not have the credentials to “preach” at the United Nations. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the credibility of the United Nations depends on its effective response to the major challenges of our times, be it pandemics, climate change, conflict or terrorism.
at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on the theme ‘A New Direction for International Peace and Security and Reformed Multilateralism’ Presiding over the open debate, Jaishankar said that we are clearly focusing on the urgency of reforming multilateralism today. Naturally we will have our own particular views, but there is at least one growing consensus that this cannot be delayed further.
There is no question of justifyingExternal Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the question of justifying what the world considers unacceptable should not arise. This certainly applies to state sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Nor can hosting Osama bin Laden and attacking a neighboring country’s parliament serve as credentials to preach before this Council.
