E-catering services are being started in two phases through WhatsApp. The first phase has been implemented. Under this, people booking e-tickets are being sent a message from a WhatsApp number, in which a ‘web link’ is being provided, to opt for e-catering services. They then book food from restaurants of their choice available at stations en route. For this, they do not need to download the app on their mobile phones and can do so directly through the IRCTC website. In the next step, information about the food is given on WhatsApp. Under this, WhatsApp Number provides a two-way communication platform to the passenger powered by artificial intelligence, where all queries related to e-catering services are answered. At present, around 50, food packets are being served to passengers through e-catering services of IRCTC website and app. (with language input)
