On December 4, 2021, six men were shot dead in Tiru-Oting area of Mon district by soldiers of 21 Para Special Forces of the Indian Army. Local coal miners were killed. The army that opened fire on the pickup truck carrying the miners claimed it was a case of mistaken identity. Soon after the incident, angry villagers set two security vehicles on fire, prompting security forces to start another round of firing, killing at least seven villagers and a security personnel. Another Naga youth was killed in firing by security forces in Mon town the next day amid tension and protests. ,
