Earlier, citizens of Myanmar had entered Lajang area on 18 July. The statement said that on 36 July a total of 175 citizens of Myanmar illegally entered New Lajang, New Samtal, 175 Yangnomphai Village, 36 Yangnomphai Saw Mill, 36 Aewomjang and 36 Bhonsse. As per the directions of the Union Home Ministry, the state government had given clear instructions to the Assam Rifles guarding the border to take strict action to stop the entry of Myanmar nationals into Manipur without travel documents. According to the statement, the state government takes the issue of illegal entry very seriously, as it may have international ramifications considering the law and order situation. The government has advised the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Chandel district to monitor the return of illegal immigrants and to keep biometric data and photographs of all citizens of Myanmar. Manipur shares 398 kilometer long border with Myanmar. The Chin community, sharing ethnic ties with the Kuki community of Manipur, lives in Myanmar.
