On this occasion, Abhishek Banerjee, National General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, alleged that education, healthcare, roads and infrastructure in the northeastern state are in disrepair. Trinamool Congress is trying to strengthen its foothold in Meghalaya along with Assam and Tripura. In November 2021, out of 16 MLAs of Congress in Meghalaya, 16 Trinamool Congress had joined, making it the principal opposition party in the 2021 member assembly.
