Detail A plan is underway to release seven of the ten cheetahs kept in the large enclosure at Kuno National Park in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, into the wild. This information has been given by the High Level Committee of the Center.
The Centre’s high-level committee says that seven more cheetahs will be released into the wild in Kuno National Park by the third week of June. Seven leopards have already been released into the open forest. Two days ago, the female cheetah Nirva was released in the forest. Then this information came to the fore, the remaining 17 cheetahs will also be released in the open forest very soon.
The expert team has also stated that all the cheetahs are in good physical condition, hunt at regular intervals and exhibit natural behaviour. Monitoring teams have selected cheetahs to roam free based on their behavioral characteristics and accessibility.
It is noteworthy that under the ambitious Cheetah Rehabilitation Project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September last year 18 in his had released eight cheetahs from Namibia to Kuno on his 80th birthday. Similarly 18 Cheetahs brought from South Africa on 18 February were released in Kuno. However, three adult cheetahs and three of the four cubs of a Namibian female cheetah, Jwala (Siya), have died in the KNP in about two months. ,
