A suspended school teacher who was brought for treatment at a taluk hospital in Kottarakkara in Kollam district of Kerala attacked and killed the doctor with a blade. The patient attacked the female doctor when she was dressing the wound. Police brought the accused person to the hospital after he was injured in a fight with family members. Police personnel were also injured in the attack.
Kerala High Court expressed concern after the murder of a female doctor Said that this incident is the result of the failure of the police and the government. Expressing displeasure towards the government and the police, the High Court bench said that this shows their failure regarding the safety of the doctors. The court said, ‘We were scared of this. We have said in the past that something like this could happen. The court said that the incident has created an atmosphere of fear among the doctors, medical students and their parents.
Police informed about the incident
An official of the Kottarakkara police said that the identity of the accused as Sandeep. He told that when Dr. Vandana Das was dressing the wound on the leg of the accused in the hospital, he suddenly became violent and attacked everyone standing there with scissors and blades used in surgery. The doctor, who was badly injured in the attack, was rushed to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram where he died within a few hours.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of the doctor and said that the incident was shocking and extremely painful. He said that a detailed investigation will be done into the matter. Vijayan said in a statement, attack on health workers in the line of duty is unacceptable. The incident will be thoroughly investigated. The government will take strict action in cases of attacks on doctors and health workers.
Medical students demonstrated after the murder of the doctor
After the murder of the female doctor, ‘Indian Medical Association’ (IMA) and ‘Kerala Government Medical Officers Association’ (KGMOA) protested across the state against the incident. He said, does he mean that the doctor was inexperienced in countering or defending against an attack by a person addicted to drugs and alcohol? The statement given by him is ridiculous.
