— ANI (@ANI) April 19, 2023 Congress hopes for political gains: The Lingayat community has proved to be a big vote bank for the BJP for a long time. However, this time the party is hoping to get political benefits from two BJP leaders from the Lingayat community joining the Congress. With senior leader and former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi joining the Congress, the party is hopeful that the Lingayat community will have an anti-BJP perception.
BJP is telling betrayal: Here, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party is trying to present this defection as a betrayal by ignoring it. Tell me, in the total population of the state, about 17 Percent stake is of Lingayat community, Northern districts are considered as their stronghold. This community is a big vote bank of BJP. The Congress has been trying to break or dent the Lingayat vote bank of the BJP for some time now. It is trying to project that the BJP has done wrong to this community by marginalizing them after using their elderly and stalwart leader BS Yeddyurappa for their own benefit.
BJP will win more seats- Bommai: On the other hand, Karnataka CM and Lingayat leader Basavaraj Bommai says that one or two Lingayat leaders will join the BJP before the elections. Leaving will have no effect. Bommai said that the BJP will win more seats than the last time in those areas whose leader has left the party. He said that Lingayats are conscious voters and whenever they have taken a decision, they have taken the right decision. Attacking the Congress, Bommai said that the Congress has always worked to divide the Lingayat community.
