The indigenously built and missile destroyer ‘INS Mormugao’, the second of the four ‘Vishakhapatnam’ class destroyers, was inducted into the Indian Navy on Sunday. INS Mormugao’ Project B’ is the second of the four destroyers of the ‘Visakhapatnam’ class. It has been designed by the indigenous organization of the Indian Navy and built by Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was present during the induction ceremony of INS Mormugao in Mumbai. During this, he said that INS Mormugao is a proof of India’s excellence in designing and developing warships. Singh said that ‘INS Mormugao’ is one of the most powerful indigenous warships. He described ‘INS Mormugao’ as the most advanced warship on the basis of technology. He said that the induction of the warship would strengthen India’s maritime power.
9115 Mormugao will be among the top three
According to experts INS Mormugao 9115 will be included in the top three. At the same time, the Navy Chief said that the induction of the warship into the Navy on the eve of Goa Liberation Day indicates the great progress made in warship design and construction capability in the last decade.
Hence the name of Mormugao was kept
The name ‘Mormugao’ is named after the historic Goa port city on the west coast. Coincidentally this vessel for the first time 18 landed in the sea on December, 2021 and on the same day for the liberation of Goa from Portuguese rule Years were completed.
