To control the angry protesters, the police chased them using water canon. Angry workers were trying to enter the corporation premises by breaking the barricade. Increase in property tax, open pits and other Councilors and Congress workers of Indore reached the corporation headquarters on Monday to demonstrate regarding the problem. First they raised slogans against Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, then burnt his effigy. During the demonstration, the workers climbed the barricade and started going towards the corporation premises. First the policemen pushed them to the other side with lathis. When the workers did not agree, the police dispersed them using water canons. The workers again climbed the barricade and were trying to go inside. The police had to use water cannon again. Warned of lathi-charging the police officers to remove the workers. After this the workers left in front of the gate. In view of the Congress’s protest announcement, a strong police force was deployed at the main gate of the corporation. When the crowd of workers moved towards the Municipal Corporation premises, the police officers did not allow them to go beyond the barricade. MLA Sanjay Shukla, Jeetu Patwari, Leader of Opposition Chintu Chokse climbed on the barricade and demanded to call the officers. Legislator Patwari told the officers that at the time of elections, Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava had said in the manifesto that no new tax would be imposed but the property tax of five hundred colonies was increased. BJP’s corporation council is making promises to the people of the city. Chintu Chokse said that the financial condition of the corporation has deteriorated, yet tenders worth crores are being issued. The corporation has made the city a people of pits. Congress councilors are being discriminated against. Other leaders including District Congress President Sadashiv Yadav, Arvind Bagdi, Pintu Joshi, Aman Bajaj, Rafiq Khan, Amit Chaurasia were present in the demonstration.
