The tribal society has been agitating many times against the increasing influence of the Bengali community in culture, politics and government. Tipra Motha claims to represent these aspirations of the tribal society. Pradyot Debbarma said that in order to protect the heritage, culture and rights of the tribals of Greater Tipraland, there should be a new state separate from Tripura. However, after the election results, he said that he was demanding complete political secession under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTADC). This can be achieved without the division of the state. TTADC was formed in 1985 to ensure the rights and heritage of tribals under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.
