But Bavaliya, a five-time MLA, is facing a tough fight this time from his former close friend and another Koli leader Bholabhai Gohil, who has been fielded by the Congress from this seat.

Jasdan comes in backward constituencies in Rajkot district

Talking about Jasdan, this area comes under backward constituencies in Rajkot district. Voting on this seat is to be held on December 1 in the first phase of Gujarat Assembly elections. There are about 2.6 lakh voters in this constituency, including about one lakh people from the Koli community and about 11,000 are Patidars. Other voters include Other Backward Classes (except Kolis), Dalits and Muslims. This area is considered a stronghold of the Congress because of the committed Koli vote bank. BJP just won the bypoll here.
