Police had earlier told that they were running the gang using WhatsApp and VOIP (internet phone) calls. The Gujarat Police also came to know about the role of Bharat Bhushan alias Bhola Shankar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, in the Morbi drugs seizure case of 2021, who was smuggling drugs from a jail in Punjab. Bhushan recently died in jail.
