NCPCR opposes legalization of gay marriage
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has approached the Supreme Court against legalizing gay marriage. Seeking the court’s intervention in the petitions, the commission has said that the Hindu Marriage Act and the Juvenile Justice Act do not recognize adoption of children by same-sex couples. The plea states, same-sex parents may have limited access to traditional gender role models and therefore, the children’s access will be limited and their overall personality development will be affected.
