For the first time two women have been elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. NDPP candidate Hekhani Jakhalu from Dimapur-III and Salhutu Kruse from West Angami seat created history on Thursday. Jakhalu defeated his nearest rival Ajeto Jimomi of LJP-Ramvilas by a margin of 1,35 votes. At the same time, Kruse has defeated independent Kenizhakho Nakhro by seven votes. It may be known that Nagaland state was formed in 1963, but no woman MLA could be elected there. This time, four women candidates - Hekhani Jakhalu, Salhutu Kruse, Hukli Sema and Rosie Thompson - contested the assembly elections.
