The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition filed by alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar and his wife Leena Paulose, seeking protection from family, friends and legal representatives by the jail authorities. There was a demand for extension in the allotted meeting time to meet Mr. A bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela M Trivedi pulled up Chandrashekhar for filing such a petition and said that he was already being visited as per jail rules.
Supreme Court pulls up Sukesh Chandrashekhar The apex court dismissed his plea saying that the accused persons were not in a position to ask for such “privileges” and to make such “extraordinary demands”. Counsel appearing for Chandrashekhar said that against his client across the country cases are pending and 10 Advocates have been engaged and the appointment time allotted as per jail rules is not sufficient.
The bench objected to the arguments of Chandrashekhar’s lawyers The bench took objection to this submission and said, “You give the names of the lawyers and we will ask the jail authorities to let your lawyers remain in jail. What kind of statement are you making in this court? What You want no privileges in prison?”
Sukesh Chandrashekhar’s lawyers’ argument His lawyer said, “According to the jail rules, only twice a week to meet the lawyers Minutes are given, which is not enough.” Chandrasekhar had filed the petition seeking extension of time to meet and consult his lawyers in Mandoli Jail here. Chandrasekhar and his wife are in jail on charges of alleged money laundering and cheating several people. He has several cases of fraud of crores of rupees against him and from the jail premises, from the family of Shivinder and Malvinder Singh, promoters of Fortis Healthcare and Ranbaxy Labs 200 There is also an allegation of collecting Rs. crores
