Delhi High Court: In a major relief to officers of paramilitary forces posted in remote areas of the country, the Delhi High Court has ordered that if they keep in rented accommodation in cities or other places, they should be given the benefit of house rent allowance of their choice. Such a facility was available only to personnel below officer rank or jawans, soon after which the Seventh Central Pay Scale was agreed upon.

A division bench of the Delhi High Court headed by Justice Suresh Kumar Kait said that the respondents are directed to take necessary steps within six weeks of this judgment in consultation with the Ministry of Home Affairs as well as the Ministry of Finance, so that the benefit of HRA is extended to the petitioners. may be given and the same may be applied to the personnel.

Ankit Chhibber, counsel for the officers, submitted that the Central Pay Commission had also acknowledged the issues faced by paramilitary officers from paramilitary forces for receiving HRA to keep families at various places of their choice and It had recommended the benefit to be given to all personnel but only jawans were given this facility which was illogical and arbitrary. Now the High Court has also given permission to the officers.
