INS Vikrant: Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and top commanders of the Indian Navy will comprehensively review India’s maritime security challenges at a major conference on the indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant on Monday. For the first time, this biennial commanders’ conference is being held on an aircraft carrier. It is being seen as a symbol of India’s priority in the maritime domain amid China’s growing presence in the Indian Ocean region.

Important security issues will be discussed at the military-strategic level A senior naval officer said that the conference will have its own importance and relevance in view of the current geo-strategic situation in the region. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will address the naval commanders on the indigenous aircraft carrier on Monday under the first phase of the conference. The conference serves as a platform for naval commanders to discuss important security issues at the military-strategic level and an institutional forum to interact with senior government officials.

The Indian Navy said that this year the first phase of the Commanders’ Conference is being held at sea. This is the novelty of this conference. Also, for the first time this conference is to be held on India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Pandey and Chief of Air Staff VR Chaudhary will also attend the conference.
