Chief Justice DY Chandrachud gave his opinion regarding the increasing honor killing in the country. He said that hundreds of people are victims of honor killing in the country. He said, youths are victims of this in large numbers because they choose their life partner crossing the caste line. The Chief Justice was giving this statement in a program organized by the Bombay Bar Association.

CJI while addressing the program quoted an article. He years Honor killing is done by the family members of a girl. After this the villagers accepted the crime of their actions. He said that the villagers seemed justified in the crime committed by them, because it was right according to their social traditions. But can such acts and attitudes be justified. He further said that there are many such examples, where people are killed for marrying against their family members.

The strong decide the morality of the weak

The CJI said that the code of conduct and morality in the village is decided by the bullies. Some prominent people of the village dominate the weaker people. Here the weak have to bow before the bullies. Even though the consent of such people is a myth, they are not able to go against their wish even if they want to. ,’No matter is small or big’

The CJI said that we had to intervene yesterday in the matter of a common citizen of the country. I want to say that trust us as the custodians of the liberties of our citizens. He said that for every court in the country, be it District Court, High Court or Supreme Court, no matter is small or big as we have the faith of citizens to follow due process of law and protect liberty .
