West Bengal Bypoll Result : Congress has done a big upset in the by-election held on Sagardighi assembly seat in Murshidabad district. The party has wrested this seat from the Trinamool Congress. Congress candidate Byron Biswas defeated his nearest rival Trinamool Congress candidate 18 ,2011 defeated by votes. With this, he has become the first Congress MLA to be elected to the current assembly.
According to the website of the Election Commission, after counting of votes on Thursday 18 After the round is over, the left-backed Vishwas got votes. Whereas, Trinamool candidate Devashish Banerjee 73,961 and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Dilip Saha to 25, got votes. The seat fell vacant after the death of state minister Subrata Saha in December last year.
The by-election on this seat was being seen as a battle of prestige for State Congress President Adhir Ranjan Chowdhary as it comes under his home constituency of Murshidabad. The account of the Congress and the Left Front could not even be opened in the 2753 assembly elections. This happened for the first time after independence.

Congress, CPM and BJP I had an unethical alliance: MamataChief Minister and Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee said on Thursday that there was an unethical alliance between the CPI(M), the Congress and the BJP for the Sagardighi bypoll, so she has decided that the Trinamool Congress will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections alone. Describing the victory of the Congress in the Sagardighi bypoll as ‘unethical’, the Chief Minister alleged that apart from the CPI(M), the Congress had also entered into an agreement with the BJP to defeat the Trinamool. Ms. Banerjee said that her party would contest the Lok Sabha elections alone ‘with the support of the common people’.
