Replying to MP Vinoy Vishwam, Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Irani said that it has been clearly stated in the POCSO Act that the age of consent for sex is a year and the government is not making any changes in it. If any case of consensual relations comes before the court, then they are free to decide on it. It is noteworthy that many times minors make physical relations with consent in a love affair, in such cases sex comes under the category of crime, while the relations were made with consent.
