The CBI had registered the case on the complaint of a Maharashtra-based firm, whose assessment was being done by the Income Tax Office in Mandsaur. It was alleged that Income Tax Officer Ramgopal Prajapati demanded a bribe of five lakh rupees and Threatened that if the payment was not made, he would ensure that his company would be raided by the department along with heavy fines. After receiving the complaint, the CBI got its verification done, which prima facie confirmed that the accused officer was demanding bribe. The agency laid a trap at the designated spot where the bribe was to be paid. Officials said that soon after being tipped off about the alleged bribe being paid, officers conducted a search and arrested Prajapati. have done.
