An official of Lonavala police station said that four motorists running on the road were injured in the incident, out of which three died. Apart from this, one person in the tanker died while two others were injured.
Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the accident
Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis expressed grief over the accident. He said, three people were injured in the accident who are undergoing treatment at a local hospital. I pray for his well being. State police, highway police, INS Shivaji personnel and fire brigade personnel are at the spot and the fire has been brought under control, he said.

The police officer told that traffic from one side of the highway has begun. Soon the way to the other side will be opened. He said that the situation is being monitored. Vehicular traffic on the expressway was suspended due to the fire and cranes were being used to clear the debris strewn on the road, the police official said.
