President Draupadi Murmu gets emotional as she sits on her cot at Unit-2 Government Girls High School, Bhubaneswar on Friday Went. She used to sleep on this cot during her student days in school. There was no school building in the village but a thatched hut where we used to study. Describing the children of the present age as “lucky”, the President said that we used to sweep the classrooms, smear the school premises with cow dung. In our time, students used to study with an open mind. I appeal to you to work hard and concentrate on your studies.

Since no one from the outside world was my role model, my grandmother/grandmother was my role model. I saw how she used to help people, especially women in our areas. My grandmother was very strong mentally and I learned a lot from her life.

As soon as Murmu reached her school, the children welcomed her. She studied in this school from class VIII to 11. He entered his school, waving to greet the people standing since morning to catch a glimpse of him outside the campus. She also went to Kuntala Kumari Sabat Hostel where she lived while studying in a government school. One teacher said that when we showed the President her room and the cot on which she slept during her student days, she became emotional and sat on the same bed for a while.

President planted sapling in the hostel premises

The President also planted a sapling in the hostel premises. She stayed in this hostel from 1970 to 1974. Later Murmu met his classmates who had been invited to the school. Chinmayi Mohanty, a retired college teacher and Murmu’s classmate, said that it was a different moment in our lives that the President of India called us to meet. We cannot express our feelings and we are very happy to meet the first citizen of the country who was our classmate during school days. Murmu asked him about the other girl students living in the hostel room. He asked, “Where is the chunni? Incidentally Murmu’s friend Chunni was not present on the occasion.

Mohanty said that we are very proud to have such a good friend. However, we could not talk much. He posed for a picture with us.
