In the midst of widespread violence in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, the Indian Embassy there had asked Indians not to come out of their houses and to remain calm, in an ongoing advisory. At the same time, the embassy had said that the Indian citizen who was injured in the shooting in Khartoum has died. In its second advisory issued after the outbreak of violence in Khartoum, the Indian mission had said, based on the latest information, the fighting has not subsided even on the second day. We urge Indians to stay where they are and not go out. According to official statistics, there are about 4,000 Indians living in Sudan. Sudan’s military seized power in a coup in October 2021 and has since run the country through a sovereign council. There is a constant tussle between the country’s army and powerful paramilitary forces over control of Sudan.
