New Delhi : Delhi's Patiala House Court on Tuesday convicted gangster Lawrence Bishnoi in the terror funding case involving pro-Khalistani organisations. The custody period of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been extended by 7 days. According to a report by news agency ANI, advocate Vishal Chopra told that the custody period of Lawrence Bishnoi has been extended for seven days. The court has also allowed legal meetings of the council during the custody. Special NIA Judge Shailendra Malik, after hearing the arguments of the NIA and the defense counsel, remanded Bishnoi to NIA custody for seven days. Earlier in the day, the Principal District and Sessions Judge transferred the case involving Lawrence Bishnoi to a special NIA court. NIA seeks 7-day custody of Lawrence Bishnoi to confront Deepak Ranga, an arrested accused in the case. After hearing the arguments of the defense lawyer Vishal Chopra, District Judge Dharmesh Sharma transferred the case. He submitted that a similar case is pending before a particular NIA case. This fact has not been conveyed to the agency by the court. Both the cases should be heard in the same court. Lawrence Bishnoi brought from Bathinda Jail On Monday, the court directed the authorities to keep Lawrence Bishnoi in Tihar Jail and produce him tomorrow. He was to be produced in the court in an NIA case. He was being brought from Bathinda Jail in Punjab. The court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma was informed that the Punjab Police and other agencies were on their way to Delhi and would not be able to reach here within the court's time. The court then ordered him to be taken to jail and produced in the court tomorrow morning. The court has also directed the jail authorities to ensure the security of Lawrence Bishnoi, as he is a dreaded accused. Waging war against the Government, conspiracy to wage war against the State on behalf of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) Section 46 , 17, 28 and B of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the court on to produce Lawrence Bishnoi on April Production warrant was issued. All these cases are pending before NIA court.
