The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh had sought permission to take out the march on October 2 last year, but the DMK government of Tamil Nadu banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) and several of its allied groups on behalf of the Union Home Ministry. Citing law and security arrangements, permission was not given to be imposed. At the same time, the top court had dismissed three petitions of the state on 11 April. Along with this, the court in its order gave its consent to the RSS to take out marches in many areas of the state with certain conditions. On the orders of the Madras High Court, the apex court had reserved its decision after hearing on last March.
