The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is known to have issued orders banning the sale of meat during several festivals and holidays in Bengaluru. Last year, slaughterhouses and butcher shops remained closed on the occasion of Janmashtami and Ram Navami. BBMP has announced such rules on several occasions, such as during Basava Jayanti, Maha Shivratri, Gandhi Jayanti, Sarvodaya Diwas and other religious events. A BBMP official had told Hindustan Times that there is a complete ban on the sale of meat for at least eight days in a year on various occasions.
