New purchase proposals have been cleared amid the nearly three-year standoff with China on the Line of Actual Control in eastern Ladakh region. DAC approved Acceptance of Necessity (AON) worth Rs 70,584 crores for procurement of military equipment, under which all purchases would be indigenously designed, developed and Will be done under built up category. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s office tweeted, Indigenous procurement of such a quantity will not only propel Indian industries towards achieving the goal of self-reliant India, but will also reduce India’s dependence on foreign vendors to a great extent.
