High Court: Honors and Awards by the High Court told the committee that he 65 Consider the application of the son of an army officer who was martyred in the Indo-Pak war a year ago and was posthumously promoted for gallantry award. The High Court said that the committee can consider expediting the process and give its decision within three months. It said that the facts of this case are unique and almost 64 pertains to war that took place years ago, therefore, this order will not be treated as a precedent.
1965 sacrificed his life in Indo-Pak war The order came on the plea of retired Brigadier NB Singh that his father Major Mohan Singh had sacrificed his life in Indo-Pak war and should be considered for gallantry award. Counsel for the petitioner submitted that though Mohan Singh was a Captain at the time of his martyrdom, he was posthumously given the rank of Major, and this in itself is an acknowledgment of the gallant act of the army officer.
The matter should be taken to its logical conclusion A bench of Justice Najmi Waziri and Justice Sudhir Kumar Jain was informed by the counsel for the petitioner that the case of his client’s father was not considered by the appropriate committee and the matter should be taken to its logical conclusion, i.e. Major Mohan Singh should be given a gallantry award. The bench said- In the relevant circumstances, this appeal should be treated as a representation of the appellant by the Honors and Awards Committee at the Army Headquarters level.
