New Delhi: Telecom regulator TRAI on Thursday issued a direction to telecom service providers to curb the practice of telemarketing companies sending repeated harassing and unauthorized messages to mobile phone users. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has asked Telecom Service Providers to take immediate steps to prevent misuse of headers and message formats by telemarketers. For this, they have been asked to re-verify all registered headers and message templates on the 'Distributed Ledger Technology' (DLT) platform. Furthermore, TRAI has said that all headers and message templates that have not been verified will be changed to 5208 respectively. And 39 must be banned within the day. Telecom companies have also been asked to ensure that the temporary header is disabled immediately after expiry. TRAI said, “Work to prevent misuse by removing confusion among the recipients of the message. Access Providers shall not register any similar headers in the name of different entities”, Telecom companies have been asked to stop sending messages from unauthorized and unregistered telemarketers. Ban telemarketing entities not registered on the DLT platform. Telecom companies shall also ensure that promotional messages are not sent by unregistered telemarketers or Not be sent by a telemarketer using digitized phone numbers. Telecom companies have also been asked to take action against telemarketing agencies not complying with these directions. Along with this, instructions have also been given to take legal action against them for violation of relevant laws.
