According to TMC sources, the purpose of the motion is to expose the intention of the BJP. A TMC MLA said- Some BJP leaders have openly demanded that North Bengal be made a separate state, but the party leadership has kept silence on this issue. Reacting to TMC’s decision, BJP chief whip Manoj Tigga said the party will discuss the resolution during the legislators’ meeting and decide on its participation in the assembly debate. To reach out to politically important tribals in Purulia, Bankura, Paschim Medinipur and parts of North Bengal, TMC has also decided to bring a resolution to recognize Sarna Dharma.
