According to the prosecution, Imam had allegedly committed on December, 2019 at Jamia Millia Islamia and 16 gave a speech at Aligarh Muslim University on December, 2019, where he threatened to cut off Assam and the rest of the Northeast from India.

Whereas in his petition before the Court, Sharjeel Imam has submitted that the Trial Court has “failed to recognize” that the grounds for rejection of his earlier bail plea, as per the directions of the Apex Court, the charge of sedition, is no longer in existence and therefore the relief should be granted to him.
