The whole matter is of Kusmi block of Sidhi district. Here Bari Jharia village is situated in Sanjay Tiger Buffer Zone Tamsar Range, which is surrounded by mountains on three sides. Kiran Baiga, wife of Shankar Baiga, a resident of this village, was sitting near the bonfire late in the evening with her children. One child was in Kiran’s lap while two children were sitting nearby. Meanwhile, suddenly the leopard attacked. The leopard carried away a child in its mouth. Kiran showed courage and ran after the leopard in the dark. Kiran was successful in bringing her child after following the leopard for about a kilometer. Kiran told about the incident that after going about one kilometer away, the leopard sat down by pressing her child with its claws. Kiran tries to snatch the child from his mouth and she succeeds. The leopard attacked him as well, but by then the people of the village had also reached the spot. Seeing the crowd, the leopard ran away from the forest. According to the forest official, the child suffered injuries on its back, cheek and eye in the leopard attack. He is undergoing treatment at Kusmi Hospital. The Forest Department will bear the entire cost of the treatment of the injured child. Apart from this, assistance amount has also been provided to the victim’s family.
